The next part of Christian’s journey brings him to the house of the Interpreter.
He comes to the Interpreter’s house and is welcomed in. The Interpreter, a wise man who looks kindly upon Christian, shows him many things. Every time, after watching a scene unfold, Christian asks what the meaning is.
The Interpreter explains the meaning of the scene and teaches Christian how to not just hear or see, but understand.
One of the things the Interpreter shows Christian is Passion and Patience.
Passion, loud and demanding, is given a bag of gold. He laughs at Patience because Patience has nothing.
Then Passion’s riches are taken away, and he is back to yelling about what he wants. Patience sits quietly all the while.
Christian understands that, to succeed in his journey, he must be patient and ‘wait for the things to come’.
Just like Christian, we have to wait contentedly for what the Lord has planned for us. Don’t follow Passion’s example and demand what you want immediately.
“Worldly riches may satisfy a little, but, like hunger pains, they will always return.”
That’s all for today. Stay tuned for more Pilgrim’s Progress insight!!
