Pilgrim’s Progress: A Look into Bunyan’s Life

·

Instead of sharing my thoughts on Pilgrim’s Progress next chapter (titled Obstinate and Pliable), I’m going to share a few interesting facts about its’ author.

Fun Facts

Besides the Bible, Pilgrim’s Progress was the most published book until about three generations ago.

I think that this is really cool to know that so many people experienced Bunyan’s amazing story and maybe grew closer to Christ after doing so. It says a lot about our world that so many people wanted to read it. People were hungry for truth. They wanted to know what this new ‘reformation’ was all about. And that was good!

Pilgrim’s Progress Part Two is just as important to read as the first one.

The sequel to Bunyan’s bestseller is not as well-read as the first, and I haven’t personally read it, but reputable sources have assured me that it’s just as good as the first. It follows Christian’s wife’s journey to the Celestial City. She experiences the same travels and similar hardships to Christian, but it’s a little different because it’s her perspective. It serves as a reminder that everyone’s journey to the Lord is unique.

Bunyan was a fantastic writer! I can’t wait to keep reading Pilgrim’s Progress with you guys:)

Some History Behind Bunyan

  • Evangelist from ch. 1 represents Bunyan’s good friend and mentor, John Gifford.
  • Bunyan dropped out of school when he was eleven or twelve years old, so he didn’t have much education, though he read a great deal.
  • When Bunyan went on trial for preaching, the judge in charge of him had spent twelve years in prison a few years before. And, weirdly enough, Bunyan would be in prison for twelve years too.

That’s all!

Today’s post was short, I know, but it’s fun and interesting to get to know the author of such a famous book. Stay tuned for more Pilgrim’s Progress posts and more!!

Until then, happy reading.
