Lord of the Rings: Best Characters

·

Welcome back to Lord of the Rings post! If you’ve never seen these movies or read the books, check out my previous post for a quick background and plot explanation.

Anyways, today will be fun because I’m going to share my thoughts on the four best characters–at least, they’re the best ones in my opinion. Let’s get started!

Frodo

Maybe it’s typical for the protoganist to be the favorite, but the main character of this movie is definitely one of the best. He was tasked with a huge, difficult job and took it up with strength and courage.

Though in new surroundings and faced with new people, the hobbit Frodo takes everything in stride and adapts to the adventure he was forced to go on. He’s kind of melancholy, but it lends a good drama and intensity to the film.

My favorite scene with Frodo is after he wakes up in Rivendale and sees his hobbit friends safe and sound. He’s tackled by Sam, Merry and Pippin in a big hug and they’re all laughing and talking. It reminded me of me and my friends after not seeing each other for awhile:)

Overall, this character is a really strong, solemn, complicated but lovable hobbit and deserves to be in the top four.

Arwen

Of course, I love Arwen. She’s such a kind, beautiful woman, yet brilliant fighter. Who wouldn’t love a sword fighting elven princess?

She’s amazing and it’s nice to have a strong female in the movie because most of the main characters are guys, and while that’s not bad, I do like having Arwen to ‘level things out’ a bit.

I like her loyalty to her friends. She could have easily abandoned them for good reason, but she stayed because she loved them.

Legolas

Legolas the elf! He’s by far the most impressive character, at least when it comes to fighting. His archery skills are unrivaled.

I also like Legolas because he is funny in that humble, serious way. He doesn’t try to make jokes, but his remarks, retorts, and comebacks are arguably the parts that made me laugh the most.

“I feel something. A slight tingle in my fingers. I think it’s affecting me.”

“Shall I describe it to you, or would you like me to find you a box?”

It’s weird because you’d think he would be friends with Frodo because of how serious the two of them are, but Legolas says maybe three words to Frodo throughout all the movies.

Instead, Legolas is Gimli the dwarf’s friend. They’re competitive with each other and always has each other’s backs.

Legolas is an important character who might not give a whole lot to the movie, but would most certainly be missed if he wasn’t in it.

Gandalf

Gandalf is crazy in the best way possible. I don’t even know how old he’s supposed to be, but he’s this ancient wizard that saves everyone all the time. I love his quiet, stern wisdom.

And one of the best parts of the show is Gandalf’s relationship with Pippin Took, a hobbit from the Shire. Pippin’s kinda dumb sometimes and doesn’t cause any real harm, until he makes a huge mistake by accidentally revealing himself to Sauron. Gandalf, frustrated, takes him under his wing.

He didn’t want Pippin in the first place, but the lovable little hobbit grows on him and he helps Pippin become a stronger, more mature individual.

Anyways, I love Gandalf and he’s a really important character.

Those are my top four characters from Lord of the Rings! Even if they aren’t your favorites, I think we can agree that these guys are amazing and some of the best characters in the entire movie world.
