The classic that I’ve recently read for the FIRST TIME! Can’t wait to share my thoughts about it.
the story
I really enjoyed the many individual adventures Anne was a part of, from climbing a roof to Ms. Allan’s tea party. My favorite was probably her first day of school–especially when she broke her slate over Gilbert’s head(if you’ve read it you get it lol).
Each chapter was a new experience in Avonlea. I loved learning about Anne’s home and doing so many interesting things I could never experience here in San Diego.
the characters
Favorite character? DEFINITELY Gilbert.
He’s so funny and a great sport, especially to Anne, who “hates” him. He is also surprisingly gentlemanly. I was caught off guard by his character.
I also liked Anne, of course, but she was a bit too flamboyant to be my favorite. Her best friend Diana, though…I LOVED Diana.
Overall, the characters were generally awesome and extremely well-written.
the lessons
The beautiful setting, funny storyline, and lovable characters make for a very bright book. Every page was filled with so much light.
And, in addition to each chapter’s singular story, there was a bigger story overall: the story about growing up. Anne starts out about 10 years old. By the end of the book, it’s been several years and, though still cheerfully imaginative, has most definitely grown up at least a little bit.
I admire Anne’s confidence and joy. I learned quite a bit about myself while reading this book, too. It has been a wonderful experience, and I highly recommend it!
