A Duet for Home by Karina Yan Glaser

·

Karina Yan Glaser is one of my favorite authors. She writes with a modern feel, and her characters are always fun, entertaining and realistic. One of her relatively new books, a Duet for Home, is a down-to-earth story about the resilient kids who live in a homeless shelter called Huey House. June, Tyrell, and Jeremiah become fast friends during their time at the shelter. But then a new policy is announced. Everyone who comes to Huey House must leave after ninety days, even if that means living in an unsafe neighborhood or run-down hotel. The three friends are determined to change this, because they believe that all the families at the shelter deserve good, safe homes and time to recover. They race against the clock, and after confronting the mayor of Bronx, NY, help to get rid of the new policy and ensure safe housing for their family and friends at Huey House.

I love this book so much!! My favorite character is June, because I admire her strength and resilience. I think Karina does a really good job weaving in realistic problems and real-life struggles, which makes her books more relatable. This book was especially amazing, and I think everyone could learn something from it. I recently reread it. I hope you’ll try it out—if you do, you wont regret it.
