After escaping the Giant, Christian and Hopeful continue on their journey, coming to a restful spot, for once.
Let’s see what happens up in those delightful, delectable mountains of the Lord:)
Shepherds
They make it to a beautiful mountainside, where several friendly Shepherds greet them. Sheep mill about peacefully.
The Shepherds give them advice about the rest of their journey. They tell them to beware several dangerous points, but that they are drawing much nearer to the Celestial City.
Christian and Hopeful thank them heartily and are refreshed in the mountains before moving on.
More Unpleasant Characters
The rest of the chapter details the conversations and discussions Christian and Hopeful have with each other–and other Pilgrims. At least, people who call themselves Pilgrims.
One of those so-called Pilgrims is Ignorance, who, much like By-Ends in my last post, is true to his name. He frustrates Christian and Hopeful, and they leave him behind.
Peace with the Shepherd
Like Christian and Hopeful, we can be helped by our Shepherd.
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul…
-psalm 23:1-3
The Lord provides rest and comfort. He is the source of our strength and our peace.
